Each part of Crete has its own fans, but the east side has the most dedicated ones. At this part of the island, summer lasts longer and in contrast to the rest of the island, where the mountainous rocks sink into the sea, the south-eastern side is milder and softer with endless sandy beaches. Tholos Ιn front of a thick olive grove, just below the village of Kavousi, has access from a paved road, 29 km east of Agios Nikolaos. It is quite quiet, because few know it with crystal clear waters.
Kouremenos Long beach with pebble sand and turquoise waters while a few tamarisk bushes offer natural shades. It is popular among surfers, since the seasonal strong northern winds create surf waves, 21 km east of Sitia.
Kolokitha Α wonderful sheltered from the wind little sandy beach, on the east coast of Spinalonga, which you will reach from a dirt road, very close to Elounda, though the channel of Poros or by boat.
Maridati From the most "unknown" beaches of eastern Crete, but near the famous Toplou Monastery, is a beautiful and quiet bay at the exit of a valley full of oleanders, 21 km east of Agios Nikolaos.
Kato Zakros An incredible beautiful beach, 40 km southeast of Sitia, in the cove with the ash-like rocks rising around the deep blue of the sea waters, beneath the gorge of the Dead and the enormous Minoan palace ruins.
Agia fotia Α fabulous beach, in a fantastic scenery of southeastern Crete, 12 km east of Ierapetra, organized with a lot of people but the wonderful crystal waters and the lush vegetation of the area will reward you for the visit.
Kalo Nero 33 km east of Ierapetra, under the small homonymous settlement, where the rocks break down into the sea, there are three small coves with tiny, marvelous beaches. The waters are crystal clear and the rocks all around make the seabed exciting.
Myrtos Μany pebble beaches beneath and around from the Myrtos village, are all protected from the winds (and people), some of them sandy, while others surrounded by rocks.
