Sissi Beach

The laid-back village of Sissi, in Lassithi prefecture, is a little hidden gem that offers everything you would expect from a traditional Cretan resort, as well as a beautiful small sandy beach at the edge of the port with deep green calm water. Nothing like the nearby tourist hubs of Malia, 8 km away, or Hersonissos, 21 km away, the hospitable and quiet village of Sissi retains its unique and charming character. Located just across from the natural harbor, Sissi Beach is ideal to treat yourself to a refreshing swim inside the blue waters of the harbor that looks like a big natural swimming pool.

Despite its popularity, Sissi is still quiet and calm, located 40 km east of the capital city of Heraklion and 26 km north-west of Agios Nikolaos town. Sissi village is an excellent base to wander and explore all the other beaches the area has to offer. Boufos beach is one of those small, secluded and clean coves that can be found on the east side of the picturesque coastal village of Sissi, an organized beach with facilities and a relaxed atmosphere. Also, the secluded bay of Avlaki, which is like a private beach with crystalline waters and white sand is found after the beach Boufos with the international award of the Golden Starfish, an excellent choice for swimming and relaxation away from the noisy crowds, especially during high season.

Once you’re in Sissi, you have the chance to take in all that makes this village special; a peaceful traditional seaside village with narrow streets shaded by blossoming bougainvillea and the colorful fishermen boats moor in the port will definitely take you back in time. The few local tavernas which line the harbor have gained quite a reputation of serving some of the best seafood on the island.
