Unaffected by man and time Preveli is perhaps the most valuable and most beautiful ecosystem in Crete; a true paradise on earth.
The beach is sandy with crystal waters and pebble seabed. It is formed at the exit of a biblical gorge, the Gorge of Kourtaliotis, which is crossed by Megas Potamos (Great River). The river pours its waters to the sea dropping the temperature of the water. On the riverside lays a native colony of Theofrastos Palm Trees revealing the exotic side of the island. The colony was destroyed in the fires of 2008, yet in just a few months, Theofrastos’ Palm Trees came back to life with no one being able to explain how this happened. Today the ecosystem is rapidly recovering. There are no umbrellas or sunbeds in Preveli. The beach is not organized at all. So be prepared.
