Around 52 km south of Rethymno, in the middle of a huge seafront called Akoumiani Gialia, there is a beach called Triopetra.
Triopetra is not advertised. You will not see many photographs of the beach in travel guides or on the internet. And this is exactly why it is ideal for those who seek relaxation and peacefulness, since it is never crowded. The beach was named after the three large rocks that emerge from the sea (Triopetra = three rocks). These rocks are so prominent that could “give away” Triopetra’slocation even from miles away. Triopetra’s waters are crystal clear and quite cold, while the beach is sandy. Here, you can find umbrellas and sand beds plus a small traditional tavern, where you can enjoy authentic Cretan recipes or coffee. It’s worth staying in Triopetra till late in the afternoon. At your departure just make a stop to enjoy the sunset. It is one of these moments where the nature reveals all of its beauty. The beach is easily accessed by car through asphalt roads, whereas the route which bypasses Siderota’s foothill through verdurous olive groves is beautiful.
