We are in the east end of Crete, on the west side of Mountain Tripiti. Ha Gorge extends from Tripiti Village (this is why it is also called Tripiti Gorge) all the way to the plain of Ierapetra on the south coast.
It is the steepest and the most difficult gorge to cross in the whole of Crete. Its walls are 300 m high (or deep, depending on where you are standing), while it is particularly narrow at some points (barely allows for a grown man to pass through). This is only for those of you who have special climbing training. Even so, do not attempt to cross Ha Gorge unless you are with a group of climbers, accompanied by a professional instructor. Hiking experience will hardly do. At the same time, though, Ha Gorge is the most daunting gorge you will probably ever see, truly amazing in the wildest sense. If you do have the experience, the training and the guts (!) to cross it, your camera will capture some of the most peculiar stone shapes and colors, beautiful caves and forgotten fauna. After 5-6 km you will reach the exit of the gorge. Follow the road to Vassiliki Village. There you can rest, refresh yourself or even have something to eat. The main road to the capital of Lassithi Perfecture, Agios Nikolaos, or Ierapetra is right at the crossing of the village.
