Balos Lagoon is more than the mind can take; a natural monument beyond description formed between Cape Gramvousa and Cape Tigani, approximately 56 km northwest of Chania. If the distance is troubling you, let us reassure you that you will be repaid in full.
Balos attracts thousands of visitors every year. Its waters are turquoise, the sand is white and the scenery is beautifully wild. Make sure you have your camera with you. This is not something you see every day. You can access Balos by land or sea. If you reach it by land be prepared to walk down (and then up again) a whole lot of stairs. The benefit is that you will get to see the whole lagoon from above; breathtaking! If you want to avoid the trouble choose the ferry that leaves from Kissamos.
