Georgioupoli is a small village located in northern Crete midway between Rethymno Prefecture and Chania Prefecture
It has very few permanent residents, still, during the summer it completely transforms into a heaving resort. It is indeed one of the most popular summer destinations in northwest Crete, not only for travellers but also for locals, since it is an ideal choice for a daytrip. Georgioupoli’s beach starts from Almyros River which bypasses the village and extends to the east for about 2 km. In 700 m, the beach meets another river, Perastikos. The waters of the two rivers create tides that make sea waters very cold. The beach continues until it naturally connects to Kavros beach, creating a seafront of 10 km approximately. Along the seaside there is sand, large sand dunes and quite shallow waters. The beach of Georgioupoli is well organized, with lifeguards, umbrellas, douches and many choices for those who love water sports. Children’s’ paradise. At the beach you can also find food. Access to Georgioupoli is very easy through the Northern Road Axis (you will see the signs).
